Discover What Causes Scars and How to Remove Scars

Happy February!

2010 is well on it's way and before you know it, summer will have arrived.  That's why I am putting a special focus on addressing something that plagues each and every one of us...SCARS.

Since this blog is all about helping women to care for their skin and address skin problems, it's appropriate to focus on this topic.  Over the next month, I will share with you how to identify the types of scars you may have, as well as how to fade scars, remedies for removing old scars and even removing scars blemishes.

So What Causes Scars?

Scars are formed as a part of the natural healing process causing extra collagen to grow beneath the skin.  However, the type of scar you get depends on a number of factors:
  • Severity and location of the injured skin
  • Age
  • Race
  • Elasticity and health of your skin

These factors determine the type of scar you will have.  There are 4 main types of scars:

Blemishes from Acne - Resulting from bacterial infections in the skin

Keloids - A raised, tumor like thickened skin tissue.  This type of scar is most common darker ethnic skin.
Atrophic  - A sunken in scar that goes deep as a hole in the skin.  A loss of skin tissue has been experienced. (My son, Christopher has an atrophic scar on his leg after losing some tissue after a surgery. Notice in the photo how the skin is a little sunken.  I am currently working on dramatically reducing this scar and will post pics in the future of his progress.  I will also share how I did it when the time is right.

Hypertrophic - raised and usually disappears over time

Now that you have an overview of the types of scars, examine your skin and see if you can identify the type of scars you may have.  Then come back here and share.  Once we've identified our scars, we will go deeper into the forms of treatment so you can determine which one is right for you.
